ICERDA 2023 CONFERENCE BURSARIES

ICERDA would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Education Sub Saharan Africa (ESSA) for their generous contributions to the ICERDA 2023 Bursary Scheme.  Through their contributions, we are able to make available a number of bursaries to assist delegate participation.

APPLICATIONS ARE REQUESTED BY 21ST JULY.

Who can apply?

Delegates, who meet the following criteria, can apply:

  • Your abstract has been accepted and you are asked to make a presentation in the conference programme.

  • You are unable to attend the conference without financial support.

  • Participation in the conference will clearly contribute to your professional development.

How much do we award?

We will award bursaries of up to a maximum of US$850 per delegate, based on cheapest travel and accommodation options available.

 What do we fund?

We will support travel and on-campus accommodation costs, but not conference registration fees.

 How are bursaries paid?

Travel expenses will be paid by bank transfer, upon receipt of a claim with confirmed flight bookings.  Accommodation expenses will be paid by bank transfer, after the conference, upon receipt of a claim with receipts and flight boarding passes.

It is regretted that ICERDA will request a refund of any bursary provided and/or not reimburse any costs for successful applicants who are subsequently not able to attend the conference.

How do I apply?

Applications should be sent by email to icerda@ucc.edu.gh providing:

  • The sub-theme and title of your accepted abstract submission;

  • A personal statement providing evidence of how participating in the conference will contribute to your professional development [Maximum 300 words];

  • A letter of support from your institution or, in the case of research students, from your academic supervisor;

  • A short CV (Maximum 3 pages);

  • A paragraph explaining the assistance required [Maximum 150 words].  Please indicate the cheapest quotations you have been able to obtain for return travel to Cape Coast, on-campus accommodation at Cape Coast and the itinerary planned.  A copy of the relevant documentation should be submitted with your application.

How are applications assessed?

Each application is assessed by the ICERDA Committee against the above criteria.

What else do I need to know?

Inevitably, more delegates will apply for bursaries than we can accept.  Please apply only if you meet the criteria stated and even applicants who meet all the criteria may well be disappointed. ICERDA reserves the right to award the amount of funding requested, a proportion of the amount requested, or make no award.

ICERDA is unlikely to support more than one applicant from the same institution.

Recipients of a bursary award will be expected, in addition to making their presentation, to produce a blog or article relating to their paper or the conference for publication on the ICERDA website.

We aim to advise of our decision to applications by the end of July.
